The Head Office of MUCC Wins Gold in the MUSE Design Awards — Space Construction with the Concept of Creating Synergy for Harmony and Integration —
Sep 14, 2022
The head office of Mitsubishi UBE Cement Corporation ("MUCC") (head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Makoto Koyama) has received a Gold Award in the interior design section of the internationally recognized MUSE Design Awards. The MUSE Design Awards hosted by International Awards Associate based in New York, USA appraise creativity, originality and ingenuity in design.
KOKUYO Co., Ltd. (head office: Osaka-shi, Osaka; President: Hidekuni Kuroda) designed the interior of the MUCC head office with the key concept, "Create synergy." This April, the head office of MUCC began operating, having integrated the cement business and the related businesses of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation and Ube Industries Ltd. (currently, UBE Corporation). Its head office is the realization of a space that promotes communication and generates synergy between employees who have developed diverse careers.
Characteristics of the MUCC Head Office
- 1Office
The office was zoned to resemble a cluster of villages, each of which consolidated the functions necessary for each organizational unit and business. The zone-based design helps strengthen relationships within the organizational unit. There are the points of interaction between the villages which enable employees to mix with each other while working.
- 2Company cafeteria (Park Terrace)
The design takes advantage of a commanding view of the nearby park, incorporating the borrowed landscape and other elements. The cafeteria is a place for establishing closer relationships with stakeholders and increasing the informal exchanges between employees.
- 3Design
To promote MUCC's business, the architectural design employs cement materials and materials related to construction sites where cement is used because cement products are a mainstay of MUCC.
- 4The seat lottery system
The head office has introduced the seat lottery system to stimulate communication. A lottery determines where employees are to be seated to adapt to business and the mood of the day. The system helps arrange an optimal environment according to the business, trigger casual conversations between employees seated next to each other, and identify whether employees are seated or away from their desk.
